Statistics New Zealand Pilot Project

Andrew Sporle leads this project to create an Iwi rohe geographic variable in the Integrated Data Infrastructure. The idea is to work with iwi to create an iwi-validated rohe maps to the meshblock level. This will create a permanent resource within the IDI infrastructure that can be used by iwi. These maps could also be added as a general datalab resource.

Sharing Information for Wellbeing

“Sharing Information for Wellbeing” are a series of hui (online and face-to-face), designed to start a korero on what you think the guidelines should be for organisations seeking to use and share individuals information for the Wellbeing for Māori .  This is part of the national conversation on social license for data use run by NZ Data Futures Partnership.

Virtual Health Information Network

The Virtual Health Information Network is being developed by Otago, Massey and Auckland Universities in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Statistics New Zealand. The VHIN was established to maximise the value of the IDI service, augmented by specific health data integration initiatives. Its vision is to create and sustain an environment that captures value from linking health data collections and related social and economic data, through world leading health research, policy development and service planning. Andrew Sporle was invited join the VHIN Executive, on behalf of TME, as a full ‘voting’ member, to represent Māori issues and concerns, opportunities and strategies, regarding health data, especially (but not exclusively) in the IDI. 

 

 International Indigenous Data Sovereignty Interest Group

A new International Indigenous Data Sovereignty Interest Group has been established, hosted by the Research Data Alliance. RDA provides a neutral space where its members can come together through focused global Working and Interest Groups to develop and adopt infrastructure that promotes data-sharing and data-driven research, and accelerates the growth of a cohesive data community.

To join the Interest Group you have to first register with the RDA (it is free and only takes a few minutes) at: http://www.rd-alliance.org/get-involved/individual-membership.html  Once registered and logged in, go the the IDSov group page (www.rd-alliance.org/groups/international-indigenous-data-sovereignty-ig) and click the ‘Join Group’ link on the right-hand information pane.

This will add you to the email list and will give you access to content (files, note pages, etc) that are posted on the group page. The Group Charter statement is up on the home page.
